- Classroom Instruction
- Go over the safety
equipment – Helmet, neck brace, gloves,
rib protector, racing suit and shoes
- Go over the kart -
weighs about 300 pounds with driver, has
about 15 hp, which gives a nice power to
weight ratio. The only suspension it
has is the flex of the chassis and tire
compression. The rear axle is solid no
differential to help it turn. It can
produce cornering forces of about three
(3) g’s (three (3) times the weight of
your body). We use three controls to
maneuver the kart, the gas pedal, brake
pedal, and the steering wheel.
- Controls and how
to use them (smooth gentle inputs).
- The racing line
(maximize the radius of the corners,
using the reference cones on track).
- Using your vision
to anticipate rather than react to what
you are going to do on the race track.
The farther down the track you look the
slower the sensation of speed will
feel. You want to eliminate the
sensation of speed.
- Suit up!
