MM RACING GOES
TO THE GROSSE ILE GRAND PRIX
|
MM Racing raced in the 3rd
Annual
Grosse Ile Grand Prix
with team drivers; Todd
Jones, Robert Knipe,
Patrick Knipe, and Rick
Knowles. The track
was lined with
tires and was designed
with few
passing zones, but
drivers with clear heads
were okay with the
layout.
Rob Knipe raced a 2006
MMR-TaG chassis
with a stock PRD engine
and took 1st
place in the TaG Pro
series on Saturday.
Awesome finish against
some really good
drivers! Racer
note: the PRD engine in
standard TaG race rules
is in a 350 pound class,
yet Rob raced in the 380
pound class. The
30 pound disadvantage
didn't stop him from
taking home the money.
Patrick Knipe raced a
2006 MMR-TaG
chassis for
three races, taking
1st place
in the KT100 Can
class overall. Way to go
Patrick! This was
Patrick's first race of
the season and first
his win. Now if we
can get him to free up
some time, we hope to
see him in more races
this season.
Rick Knowles
took 1st place in the
KT100 Pipe class
with his Fullerton
chassis. Congrats
Rick! He also raced the
MMR-TaG chassis
in the TaG Pro class,
but could not get the
Comer engine he was
running to perform.
Todd Jones ran the
SQ EVO 32B
Chassis w/Cheetah TaG
package and
SQ EVO 32B
Chassis w/KT100 for the
first time in a race. He
basically dropped the
karts out of the box,
broke the engines in,
and took them to the
track.

"I was very pleased with
the SQ kart's
performance right out of
the box in the KT100 and
in the TaG class," says
Todd Jones, President,
MM Racing. "I did not
have an opportunity to
align the karts or even
scale them. I simply
threw some DWT magnesium
rims on with MG tires
and raced."
Todd
earned the 2nd
fastest lap in KT100,
but had some wires come
loose on the Cheetah
motor so his TaG
performance was less
than expected.
Drivers remember to
clamp down wires on the
battery and coil because
it is very disappointing
to be out of a race
because of a wire coming
loose.
Too many drivers were
barreling into areas
that were only safe for
one kart, but tried to
force passing and/or
spun out in the corners.
You would think that
drivers would learn that
entering tight corners
at a slow controlled
speed would give them a
faster time out. That
wasn't the case, and
several people were sent
the hospital and/or will
have some serious
karting bills to
get themselves ready to
race again.
Todd even got his leg
run over (nice bruise on
his left thigh that will
take a good month to
heal) when a couple of
drivers overdrove the
corner and crashed into
him in the Yamaha Heat 1
race. However, he
stuck in there and ended
up taking 2nd
in the heat.
Todd had to give the
kart over to Rob Knipe
to race Sunday because
his leg was too sore. Rob took the
kart to a 2nd
place finish in
Heat 2, but then a bad
sparkplug/TCI caused the
engine to fail for the
main event. |
