It was a sunny day
in Clyde, Ohio and we were
excited to participate in our first
official cash race. Patrick
was our reluctant pit crew, since we
didn't have enough karts, or cash, for
him to drive. Rob had
his Top Kart setup with a fresh blue
printed KT100 and Todd used
Patrick's
Energy kart with a beat-up, but
legal engine (It was either that or
use an oversized engine that wasn't
legal, due to a mess up at the kart
shop.) Clutches were also used
in the Supercan and Piped medium classes
(340lb for driver and kart) for the LeMans start.
(Rob and Todd both agree they hate using
clutches, calling out, "Give us direct-drive any day and see
who the best driver is then.")

Results: Supercan didn't turn
out great,
Rob and Todd finished in
the top half of the pack. Piped
was the fastest event for the day
and Rob finished 5th, but
the first 2 finishers couldn't pass
tech, due to their use of illegal engines, so that
put him in at least 3rd place,
depending on how the other two teched. Unfortunately,
Rob was
too worried about Todd's finger and
forgot to get his own kart teched, so he
was disqualified for a top 3
ranking. (He'll never forget to tech
again, I bet.)
General Note: It was like
driving with the Dukes of Hazard out
there. Karts were flying into
hay bails at over 50mph and I heard
at least one driver broke his ribs,
and there were lots of karts that
never finished. One of the
driver's said, "Don't focus on
winning, just try to finish." Todd even broke his middle finger in
the second race when someone slammed
into his kart at over 40mph and
pushed him into a hay bail, catching
the front tire and spinning him
around. He thanks Rob for all
the safety equipment he had or the
crash could have been much
worse. Many of these drivers should have
been black flagged for not slowing
down right away to
give the "real" drivers a
chance.
Bottom Line: Rob and Todd had
a blast and that is what kart racing
is all about. MM Racing really appreciates
the city of Clyde, Ohio, as well as all the volunteers
and municipal workers for
their hard work. It takes a
ton of time to host an event like
this. Hopefully, we will see a
13th Annual event.
